TGS Film Club: Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss on Sat May 12th 7pm at a Private Social Club on King St W

What gay man hasn't spent a sleepless night laying by a "platonic" buddy, hoping he'll roll over and plant a big Hollywood screen kiss on his lips? "Billy" captures all of that romantic torture, without ever falling into pathos or losing its sprightly spirit.

Film Club: UNDERTOW -Sat 7 April 7PM at a Private Screening Room Downtown

You can’t get much further off the beaten track than this extraordinary Peruvian drama. And it’s a tribute to the film-makers that nothing about it feels all that strange. The setting is almost abstract: a fishing village with a clear sea, rocky shore, humble shacks, sun-bleached boats and little else. Miguel appears to be a pillar of this community; popular, pious and soon to be a father. But he’s conducting a secret affair with Santiago, the local outsider artist. Just when this is looking like a routine, if distinctive, study of a sexual identity in a conservative community, though, a tragedy occurs (it’s better as a surprise) and the story takes on a curious supernatural aspect. Brokeback Mountain meets Ghost gets you halfway there, but this is a measured, delicate film, set in a vividly evoked landscape. The conclusion might be too lachrymose and melodramatic for most tastes, but if you only see one gay Peruvian fisherman ghost story this year … See the preview in the YouTube section of our website.

TGS Film Club presents: "From Beginning to End" Mon Mar 5th 7:30pm

This 2009 film from Brazil tackles a controversial subject with compassion. “From Beginning to End” is set in sun-burnished Rio de Jainero, Brazil, where two boys, Francisco and his younger half-brother (same mother, different fathers) Thomás, are being raised in upper class comfort by their doting mother.

The brothers both swim competitively and Thomas always idolises his older brother Francisco and vows to be faster than him one day. That day comes around when the brothers are men and Thomas gets invited to Russia to train for the Olympic Games.

As the brothers age and the parents begin to pass away we are left to examine the undeniably unhealthy and co-dependent relationship they share and how they deal with long-term geographical separation for the first time.

Space is limited to first 20 guys
