TGS Film Club: Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss on Sat May 12th 7pm at a Private Social Club on King St W

What gay man hasn't spent a sleepless night laying by a "platonic" buddy, hoping he'll roll over and plant a big Hollywood screen kiss on his lips? "Billy" captures all of that romantic torture, without ever falling into pathos or losing its sprightly spirit.

Film Club: UNDERTOW -Sat 7 April 7PM at a Private Screening Room Downtown

You can’t get much further off the beaten track than this extraordinary Peruvian drama. And it’s a tribute to the film-makers that nothing about it feels all that strange. The setting is almost abstract: a fishing village with a clear sea, rocky shore, humble shacks, sun-bleached boats and little else. Miguel appears to be a pillar of this community; popular, pious and soon to be a father. But he’s conducting a secret affair with Santiago, the local outsider artist. Just when this is looking like a routine, if distinctive, study of a sexual identity in a conservative community, though, a tragedy occurs (it’s better as a surprise) and the story takes on a curious supernatural aspect. Brokeback Mountain meets Ghost gets you halfway there, but this is a measured, delicate film, set in a vividly evoked landscape. The conclusion might be too lachrymose and melodramatic for most tastes, but if you only see one gay Peruvian fisherman ghost story this year … See the preview in the YouTube section of our website.

TGS Film Club presents: "From Beginning to End" Mon Mar 5th 7:30pm

This 2009 film from Brazil tackles a controversial subject with compassion. “From Beginning to End” is set in sun-burnished Rio de Jainero, Brazil, where two boys, Francisco and his younger half-brother (same mother, different fathers) Thomás, are being raised in upper class comfort by their doting mother.

The brothers both swim competitively and Thomas always idolises his older brother Francisco and vows to be faster than him one day. That day comes around when the brothers are men and Thomas gets invited to Russia to train for the Olympic Games.

As the brothers age and the parents begin to pass away we are left to examine the undeniably unhealthy and co-dependent relationship they share and how they deal with long-term geographical separation for the first time.

Space is limited to first 20 guys

Sat Aug 27: Annual Harbourfront Rooftop Poolside Mixer

Toronto Harbourfront can be a minefield.

Tourists. Suburban Families. Poker-face workaholics on their way to their condos.

But we think we’ve found a compelling reason for you to give it another chance. And no, you don’t need to wear your Canada-Day socks…

Introducing our first Annual Harbourftont Rooftop Poolside Mixer, a den of lakefront cocktails and rooftop views, this Saturday August 27 starting at 8pm, just in time for a bit of almost post-summer summering.

If you’re looking to meet new gay single friends, for a bit of a casual and relaxed night out enjoying the last nights of Summer, you’ll want to take the elevator up to the top-floor pool deck on the rooftop of the Radisson Admiral Hotel on Queens Quay. There you’ll find a well-stocked bar, chill lounge music and comfortable turquoise-and-white cushions offering views of the lake, and just perhaps, the man of your dreams.

After all…the lake is a tireless wingman.

Fri Jul 15 8pm: "SHELTER" -Monthly Film Club at Private Screening Room

It’s funny how whenever a movie comes along with gay central characters, eager audiences and press alike tend to nickname the project “the gay cowboy movie” or “the gay slasher movie” or, in the case of Shelter, “the gay surfer movie. ” Truth is, Shelter is as much about surfing as Brokeback Mountain was about animal husbandry.

Shelter stands head-and-shoulders above most other films in its genre (gay romantic dramas, not “gay surfer movies”) thanks to its solid cast, its intimate, kitchen-sink feel, and its reluctance to play to the clichés that generally plague “coming out” movies.

Shelter’s avoidance of the standbys of coming-out movies makes an otherwise familiar story feel fresh. There are no gay bars, no drugs, no drag queens, no circuit anthems, no gay-bashings, no AIDS scares, and no screaming parents to speak of. Sure, some of these elements will likely enter any gay man’s life at some point or another, but Shelter’s focus on Zach’s first love and how it fits into his working-class surroundings lends a wonderful authenticity.

Sunday, Jul 10: Nautical Sunday on Toronto Harbourfront

Sunday, July 10
We don't want to alarm you, but boating season is here. Which means that those lucky enough to own a boat are spending their evenings and weekends criss-crossing the harbourfront with no regard for order, propriety or anything Rob Ford says.

And, as luck would have it, we are offering to take 12 of you single men on an unforgettable tour of Toronto Island Waters departing from Queens Quai from 5PM to 7PM on Sunday, July 10. An optional BBQ will await you upon your return to the mainland, finishing at 9PM. Click Here to Reserve Your Spot!

Getting a taste of cottage life while meeting new singles just got a whole lot easier. And if by the end of the breezy evening you feel like you want to relax on dock and enjoy the sunset over the Toronto skyline...while getting to know a new friend drink in hand, well...that's also a possibility.

$59 includes two-hours around Lake Ontario on an Avanti boat driven by a most friendly ex-U.S. Marine (it's true!), socializing with new friendly singles and a few vodka cocktails while on board. Optional BBQ starting at 7PM on Pier 4 extra $10.

Get invited to meet the author of "How to Raise a Boyfriend* the Definitive Manual on Educating your Man"

Have you ever dated a man who acted like a giant toddler?
-We bet you have!

Author Rebecca Eckler will be reading from her recent book to a small group on Tuesday, May 31 at 7PM (downtown location). The first two members who send an email to: hello@torontogaysingles.com with the subject: "boyfriend" will be placed on the guest list.

Now, we haven't read Ms. Eckler's book (is it satire, or serious? chick-lit humour or outdated and stereotypically-ill cheap advice?), so here are two reviews to help you decide:
